For the past three years, Live Footage has been playing a weekly 3-hour set at the famed Apotheke on Doyers Street in Manhattan’s Chinatown.

Like the foundation of their music, their shows were mainly improvised. Given the mercurial nature of improvisation, Live Footage decided to record every set they could to document their performances and their progress.

Ending up with literally hundreds of live archived sets, and discovered that live improvisations took on their own distinct sound and decided to explore this in a more thorough way.

For six days, the band turned The Creamery Studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn into their laboratory, record 20 rolls of 1Ž4 inch tape on an 8-track recorder. By no means purists, but in an age where there is essentially no limit to what can be manipulated in the studio with software, Live Footage embraced the natural limitations of the equipment with open arms and created what they feel is their music in its most natural form – improvised, handcrafted, imperfect and truly from the heart!
